ThermPix: The Future of Non-Invasive Health Screenings
Our City Hollywood, March 2025 | By Dr. Ariel Soffer
Hollywood is known for its laid-back beaches and sunny weather—but did you know it’s also home to a breakthrough medical innovation? Meet ThermPix®, the handheld infrared thermography (IRT) device revolutionizing how we screen and diagnose many health conditions. This cutting-edge technology was developed locally by Hollywood’s own highly respected vascular surgeon Cardiovascular Specialist Dr. Ariel Soffer, and is now available both here and in 9 countries around the world.
At the Soffer Health Institute, headquartered on Hollywood Boulevard, Dr. Soffer has been pioneering new ways to improve patient care for years. Renowned for his expertise in cardiac and vascular medicine, Dr. Soffer co-founded USA Therm® to tackle a common challenge in healthcare: how to make screenings for chronic venous diseases, like vascular disease, more accurate, non-invasive and without any radiation.
His team recognized a type of infrared thermography as the key. Traditionally, detecting vascular issues often requires multiple visits, sometimes uncomfortable tests, and a host of follow-ups. ThermPix® changes all that by leveraging advanced handheld thermal imaging to quickly identify temperature variations in the body, which can be early indicators of blood flow problems, inflammation, or other issues needing immediate attention.
A Decade in the Making
“It was about a decade ago when I first saw my own leg through a thermal imaging device,” Dr. Soffer recalls. “An esteemed colleague of mine from the United Kingdom, a Vascular Surgeon, was using a device meant for detecting heat signatures through walls on construction sites. When he showed me my leg, through my socks, it just blew my mind. The technology was simply detecting tiny temperature variations in my leg—and in that moment, I knew I had to develop it for human medical needs.”
Fast forward to today, and ThermPix® is changing lives across the globe, catching circulation problems before they become serious, guiding more effective treatments, and allowing patients to understand what’s going on by literally seeing the invisible.
What Makes ThermPix® So Revolutionary?
Completely non-invasive. No one likes the idea of needles or extensive scans. ThermPix® uses infrared technology to capture temperature differences on the skin’s surface—without any contact or radiation. It’s like taking a picture that shows “hot spots” and “cold spots,” which can point to problem areas inside the body.
